326 Elm St, Long Beach, CA 90802
“There is value in the act of slowing down and spending time with
something in a society that is increasingly surrounded and bombarded
with stimuli designed to be digested in split seconds. [The
installations] aim is to create an opportunity for the viewer to enter a
more active viewing and listening space. ” Rob Brown
Creative
Arts Coalition to Transform Urban Space (C.A.C.t.T.U.S) is proud to
announce its inaugural exhibition, A Vision of Standing Rock Under San
Pedro, a collaboration between Rob Brown (MFA 13’ CSULB) and Jorge
Mujica (MFA 12’ Yale University.) The installation is facilitated by a Grant through Arts Council for Long Beach and contributions from Mutual Aid, Stay Anchored - Long Beach, Romeo Chocolates and Heavy Gel.
Responding to the events in Standing Rock North Dakota, Rob Brown and
Jorge Mujica look to create a visual hyperbole for viewers to STOP,
listen and consider how the abstraction in front of them can provide a
moment of pause to find clarity. Consisting of three window displays,
Brown and Mujica will combine painting techniques and use interactive
technology to draw viewers through portals poetically echoing the
symbolism of the “San Pedro Cactus” as a tool of introspective thought
while considering the events in Standing Rock North Dakota.
